Sustainable Living
Sky Harvest is a project to create a sustainable home in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The idea is to maximize the capture of renewable components from the sky - solar power, rainwater collection, and the passive cooling effects of the dog trot architectural style.
The Dog Trot Design
The fundamental element of this home is the dog trot concept. An early American architectural design that features to separate buildings under one roof and separated by a breezeway. The house is oriented on the land in such a was as to allow the prevailing wind to pass directly through the breezeway. The house can be ventilated and receive cooling benefits from the wind.
Renewable Power and Water
The house features solar panels on the southern facing portion of the roof providing maximum exposure to the sun. A metal roof is equipped with gutters directs the rainfall to a 29,000 gallon collection tank providing for all the water needs of a small family.
